Blow Out
No, not the football game...the final minutes of the game our hearts were racing for the Packers. In the end, they didn't manage to pull off a win. The good news is that their loss means that I won't "have to" purchase Packer sock yarn for the Super Bowl thereby keeping my stash goals intact.
As if the loss wasn't upsetting enough, discovering a major blowout in my Scottish Highlands socks this morning was truly defeating. (Or should that be de-feeting!?!) I was so excited when my SP8 pal, India, gifted the yarn to me. This sucks!
From the looks of the heels, it appears that the other sock is due to have a blow-out soon as well. The sad thing is that these were made with the medium weight Socks that Rock. Imagine if I'd used the lightweight version. I have some yarn leftover and might try darning these.
Ever thought of that word: darn. After all the work that goes into these socks when a hole appears, one of the first words that comes to mind is "darn"...or the slightly harsher version. I'm sure those women years ago may have been uttering a few darns while fixing the socks as well. Darn blow out!

Ha... just like mine... only that my medium weight STR socks got a hole in a part of my foot that hardly gets any wear at all. I don't wear the socks in shoes as they're too thick, so the fact that they've got a hole in them after wearing them maybe 10 times just tells me that that sock yarn's not really a good quality sock yarn. It has totally put me off buying more.
A pity actually, because I like most of their colorways. I've now decided that all the STR I still have (lightweight and medium weight) will only be used for scarves.
Cheers Eva

Dang! I love STR yarn and how it knits up. From the looks of things, though, you got quite a bit of wear out of these socks before they bit the dust. Maybe you could get BMFA to send you one of those small skeins they send with the RSC kits.

Instead of actually darning, why not pick up stitches above and below the hole and knit a new patch. Then graft the other side and mattress stitch in the sides? Smoother on the foot than a darning?

I'm so sorry about both the game and your socks...go ahead and buy the yarn anyway, I would!
