Say hello to #16. Stansfield 196 toe-up socks from More Sensational Knitted Socks. This pair knit with Sockotta.
First, the yarn DOES feel more like string while knitting with it. However, I know from experience that it gets quite soft once washed. Second, the Stansfield 196 design is charted. However, even the chart is quite simple to "memorize" and work the pattern quite simply by "reading" your knitting. I know I'll be knitting this design again. Third, I resisted temptation and made this pair fraternal instead of identical. However, I am happy with the results.
Two finished pairs of socks in a week. Can you tell that we've spent the evenings with the air conditioning on!?! The kids have been watching "old" movies with us. Movies with microfilm instead of jump drives and where telephones still cords attaching them to the wall. You know, really OLD, at least to the kids. We've seen Sneakers (1992), The Saint (1997), Entrapment (1999), The 6th Day (2000), Cast Away (2000). You know, really OLD stuff, at least to the kids. (We have a well stocked public library!)
Note: Just as I was about to post this I noticed a very familiar looking pair of socks over at Momma Monkey's. Stansfield 196 in a solid colorway.

Nice socks!
Old movies huh? I guess that would be ancient history to the girls...you know, back in the old days?!!

Love the socks! I love the AC too, I don't think I could live in this weather without it. The added bonus of knitting is a plus!
