A New Season Begins

P4150072 What to do on a beautiful Sunday afternoon!?!  In the Krafty1 household, we decided it was time to resume our weekly Geocache adventures.  What better than to run through the fields in search of "treasure".  Granted, some areas were a bit damp soaked.  Poor KC ended up with soaked shoes and socks.  But, she's still smiling!

For those of you who are unfamiliar, geocaching is a type of "hide and seek" where GPS receivers are used to find hidden containers called caches.  There are nearly 400,000 containers hidden around the globe.  It's great fun!  If you have access to a GPS unit, give it a go...warning, it can be addicting.

P4150064 The fresh air was welcome after my internet struggle.  Meet the bane of my surfing existance...the cable modem.  This particular model is approx. 7 years old and is under death watch.  Work for an hour, dump.  Work for 3 minuted, dump.  Work for 20 minutes, dump.  At any moment, there is no guarantee it will communicate with the "mothership".  Can you imagine what it was like to review 70 knitting blogs for SP10 today!?!  (I have contest results for my group to post that will need to wait until tomorrow.)  Ahhh, fresh air, just the answer.  Tomorrow the modem will be introduced to the fresh air when it is kicked to the curb.  The cable company has promised us a new modem.  Then we can return to uninterrupted knitting content.

I always wanted to try geocaching!!! But we don't have a GPS. What kinds of stuff are in them?

I hope you get your new modem soon!! My cable company bits...that's why I went to DirectTV. I'd love to do Geocaching, do they have it in my area? Right up your "sleuthing" alley!!

Hello Sock Queen,
I may have found you a new kind of sock to knit!!!! On Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, HGTV airs Knitty Gritty at 6 am. I tape it to watch later and today I found something interesting and intriguing. A new way to knit socks. There were a couple of techniques that I have never seen before. I have e-mailed you the link and I hope it gets to you. If not, Knitty Gritty is on the DIY Network site. The show number is DKNG-701. The show name is Coriolis Sock. The designer is Cat Bordhi. If you get on the home site, go to the search box and put in the number above. I have saved the tape incase you would like to see the demo. Check it out.

I'm sitting here ready to smash my modem to pieces too. I have the EXACT same one you do. Then, my linksys goes on the fritz too. Like you said, a few minutes it works, then off again. I think I'll see about a new one too. glad this didn't happen when I was in grad school!! . . . . but, then again, . . . just as bad when surfing the knitting sites . . . if not worse!!!!!

Robin in VA. Just check out the web site http://www.geocaching.com/ put in your zip and it will give you a list of caches in your area.

You can use the same site to track the caches you located. They have advice on selecting and buying a GPS if you don't already have one.
