Sad News: Disaster struck
You may have been wondering why I needed to something to brighten my spirits. Well, I'm finally able to tell you about it.
My beloved Jersey Girl found herself co-mingling with Terry---as in cloth---as in towels---while they were headed to clean up their acts. Sure, they all looked the same. Sure, they could easily talk our dear Jersey into sharing a cold drink with them. But then they convinced her to take a few laps around the front loader. When the cold drink was gone, she managed to hang out and get dry but it was too late. She felt shrunk. 3-4 inches stripped from her life!
Her once crisp v-shaped stitches are now blurred. Her svelte, light weight is now dense and solid. The purl stitches that once loosely supported her cables have now collapsed.
Her little sister, who was once green with envy is now green for a different reason. It makes her sick to know that our dear Jersey Girl had happier days. Days spent cheering on aspiring sweaters or recently enjoying the great outdoors.
Like Little (green) Sis, I am left to look on in shock and disbelief and wonder what is to become of my beloved Jersey Girl. Where once my hips were wrapped, now my waist is barely brushed. Where once my arms were free to be part of an embrace, now they are wrapped in a close strangle hold. Poor, Jersey Girl. Why'd you get wrapped up with those towels!?!

Alterknits has a wonderful pattern for "recycled sweater totes". As soon as I find the time, I'll try it with one of my old sweaters. It might be a good way to still enjoy your Jersey Girl.
